Beside Rockwell\u2019s oatmeal and fishing rods, MacEoin\u2019s version of the world doesn\u2019t have a chance. Life inside and outside the institution is one proliferation of the progressive tense \u2014 experience as &#8220;floating, barking, shaking, turning, slaving, clutching, glaring, coughing, and disappearing\u201d: that mutated world where present, past, and future are one. \u201cYou could call it living,&#8221; moving from \u201cbed to chair \/ bed to chair\u201d where time is a &#8220;barrier to be broken\u201d because no one wants the depressives. These poems stagger and drool. Sometimes, they brawl.
